About Us

The Town of Middletown is a one hundred square mile area consisting of communities including Margaretville, Arkville, New Kingston and Fleischmanns. It is one of the most under-served areas of Delaware County with a median income of around $25,000 where about 17% of the population live at or below the poverty level.

A small Food pantry was set up in Margaretville nearly twenty years ago to help impoverished community members, but when Middletown was hit by Hurricane Irene in August of 2011, the Pantry was flooded out. Thanks to the Interfaith Council and devoted volunteers, the Pantry was up and running three months later, in a somewhat diminished capacity, once again serving their client base.

Recognizing the need for a more comprehensive and inclusive operation, the Food Pantry was reincarnated in August of 2012 under a new name, “The Community Pantry,” and moved to a more convenient, and flood-free location.

Since that time, the Pantry increased its client base from forty to more than two hundred families. The Pantry is eager to continue distributing much needed emergency food supplies, and with your help we hope to establish a tradition of reaching and teaching this largely under-served segment of our population.
